Lake Mburo National Park

Lake Mburo National Park is a precious gem situated in the western part of Uganda and is filled with wonderful species of wild animals famed for its impala and Burchell’s Zebra. Lake Mburo national park is Uganda’s smallest and yet nearest park to the capital city of Uganda, Kampala covering a ground distance of 260km squared Lake Mburo national park spans in the districts of Kiruhura, Lynatonde, Mbarara and Isingiro and its approximately 240Km from Kampala the capital city of Uganda. It is indeed a birders paradise as it is filled with over 300 bird species and has the shimmering lake Mburo which holds the water ventures of the national park.

Wildlife tours; Lake Mburo national park is famous for its unique zebra species known as Burchell’s Zebras and it is also the only national park in Uganda that has impala. However, these alone do not complete the wildlife species at Lake Mburo National Park as the park is filled with a variety of wonderful wild species like; Elands, zebras, impalas, leopard, hippos, Defassa, waterbuck, Topi, reedbuck, oribi, buffalos, lions, horses, monkeys, baboons, lions, buffaloes, leopards, hippos, giraffes, crocodiles among others

Bird watching; Lake Mburo national park is home to diverse bird species of approximately 450 and is a UNESCO recognised site. This shall indeed fulfil a birders experience and leave him/her yarning for more. ; Papyrus yellow warbler, brown chested lapwing, black bellied bustard, blue headed coucal, blue breasted kingfisher bare faced go away bird, black headed gonolek, yellow breasted apalis, papyrus gonolek, red faced barbet, yellow rumped tinkerbird, saddle billed stork, African wattle lapwing, pied kingfisher, malachite kingfisher among others

Exploring the fresh waters of Lake Mburo; This fresh water lake is situated in the heart of the national park and has beautiful features surrounding such as the   green trees and hills, savannah grass land, the beauty of shimmering sun sets and sun rises from the water surfaces not for getting the therapeutic sound of the water birds singing sweetly around the shores while on the lake one can launch a boat cruise. This alone is a very great experience for one while on a Uganda safari at Lake Mburo National Park.

Boat cruise; On waters of lake Mburo is also an activity that is thrilling and adventurous to explore while one gets an opportunity to view wild life such as hippos, crocodiles, Elands, zebras, impalas, leopard, hippos, Defassa, waterbuck, Topi, reedbuck, oribi, buffalos, lions, horses, monkeys, baboons to mention but a few. However, this activity can only be done with the guidance of a tour guide to enable safety and a beautiful experience this costs 30 USD per head and 30,000UGX per head of east African citizen it usually takes one around 2hours. This activity usually starts at 8am in the morning.

Cultural Visits; While on a Uganda wildlife tour in lake Mburo national park, one can decide to visit and get to Know about the day to days ways of the people surrounding Lake Mburo national park and these mainly are the Banyankole people who are divide into the Bairu who are crop cultivators and the bahima people who are cattle herders all these group of people have a unique sense of dressing, traditional dances and songs to mention but a few.

Sport Fishing; Lake Mburo is filled with a variety of fish species that just makes sport fishing at Lake Mburo national park a fun activity some of the species of fish include; Cat fish, tilapia fish, Lung fish, Angara fish, barbell fish to mention but a few.one shall be able to catch a meal for their Uganda fish delicacy while on this activity.

Horseback Ride; With a company of a guide, one can tour or view wildlife while on Horseback ride throughout the national park. This activity is fun filled and can be done in a group however it comes at a cost of between 40/60 USD per head lasting for 30minutes to 1 hour. This shall enable one to view different wildlife species with a more thrilling experience.

Nature and forest walks; There are numerous trails that run across Rubongo forest through which one can walk throughout the national park viewing different vegetation, wildlife species, relaxing and also viewing birds. These walks can be therapy or sort of exercises for a tourist.

The best time to visit Lake Mburo national park can be during the dry months of January, February, December, August, September, June. However, lake Mburo national park can be viewed throughout the year and it is one of the closest national parks to Entebbe National park .
