Ulenge Island, also known as Ulenge Island Marine Reserve, is a 3.151 square kilometers protected area. The reserve is located in the Pemba Channel, part of the Tanga Marine Reserves (TMRS). The reserves were established in 2010 under the Marine Parks and Reserve Authority (Tanzania). Designated as an IUCN category II site. Ulenge Island is also situated near the northern part of Tanga, bordered by Tanga Bay and Kwale Bay. The island is often referred to as Bird Island. It serves as a vital sanctuary for numerous seabird species including Greater Sand Plover, Curlew Sandpiper, Crab Plover, Migrating Waders, and many more.
