Gombe National Park

Gombe National Park: Tanzania’s National Park of mountainous 52 square kilometers of the western rift escarpment on Lake Tanganyika Located in Kigoma district in western Tanzania, The Park was established in 1968 and is one of the smallest National Park in Tanzania which covers an area of 35 square kilometers only along the hills of eastern shores Lake Tanganyika. The Park is characterized by steep valleys, and vegetation ranging from grassland to woodland and again to rainforests. The park is where Jane Goodall the famous researcher evolved her research on chimpanzees and the Masekela chimpanzee community happened to feature in several books and documentaries Gombe National Park, the park’s landscape is characterized by a diverse mix of habitats, including Dense forests, woodlands, grasslands, and steep valleys, The Gombe National Park offers breathtaking views of the Lake Tanganyika and surrounding mountainous parks. Its dense forest canopy provides ample shade and shelter to the primates that inhabit the park including Chimpanzees, Baboons, and Red colobus Monkeys among others.

 Chimpanzee trekking: embarking on a chimpanzee trek tour is one of the famous activities within the park which is commonly known for its population of habituated wild chimpanzees where visitors experience and encounter these creatures, The Park homes several chimpanzee communities each led by an alpha male and consisting of females. Visitors to Gombe have a unique opportunity to witness chimpanzees socializing and engaging in complex social interactions.

WILDLIFE: Chimpanzees are the main attraction in Gombe National Park but the park is also home to a diverse of wildlife species which includes red colobus monkeys and olive baboons these normally share the forest with chimpanzees and compete for resources usually making it easy to be spotted, bush pigs, duikers among other much more.
