Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Pick up Kigali – Transfer to DR. Congo – Bukavu
On day 1 of the 6 Days Kahuzi Biega and Volcanoes National Park Safari, depending on your point of location in Kigali, you will be met by our professional safari guide to drive you across to Bukavu. It’s about 7 hours drive through the Nyungwe Forest National Park with spectacular views of the rolling hill with stopovers for lunch and refreshments. Cross through the Cyangugu border after finalizing the immigration process and continue a drive to Bukavu town which is the nearest town to Kahuzi Biega National Park in Democratic Republic of Congo. Arrive at Bukavu town, connect to your accommodation for dinner and overnight stay

Day 2: Lowland gorilla trekking – transfer to Nyungwe National Park
On day 2 of the 6 Days Kahuzi Biega and Volcanoes National Park Safari, have your breakfast at your hotel before transferring to the park headquarters for a briefing about the Eastern lowland gorillas. Thereafter, head on your remarkable trekking experience of the Eastern lowland gorillas in the valleys of Kahuzi as you encounter different mammals, birds, and primates. The search can take about 1-6 hours’ trekking in the jungle depending on the movements of the lowland gorillas. On finding them, you will be allowed to spend 1 hour in their presence as you watch them interact/play with each other while you take photos and capturing videos.
After your fabulous encounter with the Eastern lowland gorillas, you will descend, meet your driver, and return to cross back to Rwanda. A drive takes 3 hours drive from Bukavu to Nyungwe Forest National Park. You will connect to first check-in at your lodge for lunch. Proceed to check in your booked lodge for relaxation, dinner, and overnight stay.

Day 3: Chimpanzee and Canopy walk – transfer to Kibuye
You will enjoy your breakfast and go for a briefing about the endangered chimpanzees before entering the forest in search of the active and playful fellows in Nyungwe forest with your backpack. The Chimpanzees are much easier to see as they jump from one tree branch to another, chattering and laughing. Chimpanzee tracking can take about 3-5 hours depending on their location. To find them, spend an hour while taking pictures and videos.
Later afternoon, around 2 pm connect to canopy walk experience. You will go on a walking trail that will take you to the Canopy Walk swing bridge 50 meters in length that is suspended from large trees; you will be able to watch the beautiful rainforest with a bird’s eye view, spotting wildlife moving below you. Connect to your accommodation in Kibuye. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Boat trip on Lake Kivu – Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Have an early morning breakfast, connect to Lake Kivu with en-route beautiful scenery, enjoy a boat trip on Lake Kivu, and visit some of the islands on the lake with lunch en-route in Gisenyi. Later evening, drive to Volcanoes National Park. It’s a 2 hours drive. Arrive at your lodge for relaxation, dinner, and an overnight stay.

Day 5: Gorilla trekking experience
Wake up to an early morning breakfast and report to the park headquarters for briefing and looking of Gorilla trekking groups assigned on that particular day. Later, head into the cold and misty forested slopes of Virunga National Park for your Gorilla trek. The trek can be anywhere between 2 to 6 hours depending on the movement of the Gorillas. On allocating them, you will be given 1 hour to watch and take photos after which you exit the forest. Spend your afternoon at leisure. Option of visiting the Ibyacuwa community village or stay the lodge to relax. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 6: Transfer back to Kigali city (2-3 hours’ drive)
After breakfast, check out of the lodge and head back to Kigali city. Upon arrival in Kigali, you will either be dropped off at the Kigali Airport for your departure flight or be dropped off at your own booked hotel.
